Vegan golden gay time

Streets, the Australian ice cream brand owned by multinational Unilever, recently launched a vegan version of Golden Gaytime, an ice cream snack sold in the country since

“This isn’t any usual flavour launch; this is about opening up our product to more Australians&#;

Streets’ decision to create a non-dairy version of its iconic ice cream comes in response to a petition by consumers asking the company for a vegan-friendly alternative.

Annie Lucchitti,  Streets’ spokesperson commented on the launch, “Australians have been buying more plant-based products than ever, and we are thrilled we could bring another Aussie classic into this domain too. Golden Gaytime has been around for over 60 years, and re-creating this iconic product had to maintain the delicious expectations that approach with our classic treat.”

Vegan Golden Gaytime Ice Cream

These vegan Golden Gaytime ice cream blocks are an adaptation of the classic Australian ice cream.

This vegan Gaytime is AMAZING. For those who don&#;t live in Australia, a Gaytime is a toffee and vanilla-flavoured ice cream dipped in a choc coating and covered in biscuit pieces. It’s one of the more popular ice creams in Australia and can be bought from the majority of corner stores or service stations. Not many desserts can compete with the Gaytime

The creaminess of the ice cream complements the crunchy biscuit pieces. The deep yet fun caramel flavour of the ice cream brings out the richness of the biscuit pieces and contrasts with the chocolate. When all of these components are combined, it is an explosion in your mouth! I imitated all of these delicious elements of the traditional Gaytime and added some real nuts, coconut and banana for depth. I couldn’t believe how adv it turned out!

The Golden Gaytime is a much-loved Aussie icecream that has withstood a shifting interpretation of its name. Its winking tagline is that it's hard to have a Gaytime on your own, and it's tempting to toast Australia's positive vote for marriage equality with one of these delightful popsicles.

And yet! We prepare to make this a Streets Free Summer, in solidarity with the workers making Golden Gaytimes and facing verb cuts of up to 46%. So why not make a Gaytime on your own?

The easiest path is to whip it up, sundae style, with purchased icecream. A scoop of vanilla icecream, a scoop of caramel - have you noticed that there are some magnificent vegan salted caramel ones out there now? Make your own two-ingredient choc-ice magic, scatter over some crushed biscuits and you are SET.

Of course, I had to overthink this project and make my own icecream. I thought I'd mastered vegan salted caramel icecream years ago, though I've grown a little weary of overbearing coconut milk desserts since then. I worked in some macadamia milk, glucose syrup to improve the textur
